Community
Ivernia believes in supporting the communities in which
we operate in a sustainable and responsible manner. We
will be involved in the development of programs that are
expected to have a positive and lasting effect on nearby
communities.
In 2005, we supported the Constable
Care Child Safety Foundation, a nonprofit organization
that specializes in early intervention strategies for
children. With this support, the program was able to
make its first visit in 10 years to the Wiluna Remote
Community School. The Company also contributed to the
construction of the community swimming pool which
provides regular organized exercise for women and
children.
Community, Health, Safety and the
Environment
Ivernia considers the adherence to responsible
occupational health, safety and environmental management
and performance as integral to its operations and the
success of the Company. This is achieved through
leadership, training and the use of reliable systems
that provide timely and accurate information, in a
transparent manner, to support effective control and
decision making.
All mining, processing and
exploration activities are carried out in a manner that
protects the safety and health of employees,
contractors, visitors and the community, while paying
proper regard to the environment. All Company and
contractor activities comply with legal requirements.
Occupational Health and Safety
At Magellan, a Health, Hygiene and Environmental
Management Plan documents the site operating procedures.
This plan includes all the safety procedures designed to
manage and control human exposure to lead, minimizing
blood-lead levels by preventing lead ingestion. Ongoing
monitoring of blood-lead levels is conducted by
independent medical personnel, using accredited medical
laboratories for analysis.
The site has been designed to
minimize personal exposure to lead. Systems for
containing and monitoring personal exposure and
atmospheric dust emissions are in place and incorporate
best practices.
Environment
A comprehensive Closure and Rehabilitation Plan has
been developed, incorporating current and projected
rehabilitation requirements as set out by statutory
authorities and mining industry best practices. The plan
requires progressive rehabilitation of disturbed areas
during operations to minimize the impact on the
environment, as well as to reduce final closure and
restoration costs for the site.
